The Estate Inventory and Sale of Jacob Shook

This is one of my most treasured finds. I found it at the courthouse there in Waynesville, in the old books. It is in Wills & Inventories, Book 1, beginning on page 54. Go spend some time there yourself. The pages are legal size and took me 2 attempts to get them scanned. Thus, page 54a and 54b.

There in this old book is also the inventory record of John Shook, (Jacob's father or his brother?). But it is so faded that it could not be copied. It is good to know where it is. This book is not indexed. It took some time to find these. Doralyn and I had been in that room acouple hours and she was restless to go on to the next room and search for land records of our Jonathan Hicks and his son, Joseph Hicks. I can not explain the force that held me to the floor and held this old book in my hand. I couldn't have put it down if I had wanted to follow her. After a few minutes, I found Papa's record, and started bawling like some hysterical old bitty, (that I am). I had to take this book to an employee for copying. She must have thought me completely insane. The copies are far from perfect and we have later tried to clean them up a bit. But the juice is all here. ... Wilma Simpson
