Bob Jones Bob's GGrandmother was the daughter of John, son of Dan, son of Peter Shook, old Jacob Shook Sr's boy. When Bob was a kid his Grandmother told him of old "George", born in Holland. She told him that George wore wooden shoes! Bob lives in North Carolina about 20 miles from Clyde, N.C., a little town which was known up until 1882 as Shooks, N.C.

] Wilma is the daughter of George David Hicks, son of James Ransom Hicks, Son of Joseph Calloway Hicks, son of Margaret Shook Hicks, daughter of Jacob Shook and Isabella Weitzel. She currently lives in Washington State. She learned about the Shook line in January 2000, and has been completely obsessed with Papa Shook, his house and the family ever since. While planning a month of genealogy research with sister, Doralyn, in May 2000 she expressed the desire to make a trip to Clyde. Doralyn's concern was about the miles between Memphis and Clyde. Wilma's reply was that it was only three days! We stayed longer and Wilma left her heart there.

] Doralyn Hicks Short is the daughter of George David Hicks, son of James Ransom Hicks, son of Joseph Calloway Hicks, son of Margaret Shook Hicks, daughter of Jacob Shook and Isabella Weitzel. Doralyn and Wilma Simpson are sisters. Doralyn has lived in and around the Memphis Tennessee area all of her life. She is not far from the old Hicks homestead, which had its beginning with a land warranty, owned by Margaret Shook Hicks. Doralyn is retired from a life spent in pharmaceutical research and development. Now, instead of spending her time in an antiseptic lab, she is happiest when she is doing research in the dusty archives of a courthouse or in the midst of old history books at a library. She still has the knack of quickly zeroing in on the object of her search of the day. Sherlock Holmes may be in her family tree somewhere.

] Virginia Shook Bills is the daughter of Bynum Taylor Shook, son of Joseph Emerson Shook, son of Ira Bynum Shook, son of John Shook, son of Jacob Shook, son of Johann Jacob and Isabella Weitzel Shook. She was born and raised in Earth County, Texas and has been actively collecting Shook history for several years. In the mid 1990's she learned about the "Shook House" in Clyde, NC. She and her sister Faye Shook Phears were finally able to visit it, and the cemetery, in September, 1999. Very moving experience! Sad part is she took her father and mother up the Blue Ridge Parkway twice, before they passed away, and did not know the house existed nor that the family history is in Clyde, NC. It is her prayer that a family member will be able to purchase the house and restore it to it's former splendor.

] Alton Blevins is the 5th great-grandson of Johann Jacob and Isabella Shook, 4th great-grandson of Jacob and Elizabeth Shook, a 3rd great-grandson of Daniel and Emily Shook, and a 2nd great grandson of Cortez Franklin and Lorraine Isabella (Shook) Wilson. Alton discovered that Lorraine's maiden name was Shook in February 27, 2000, when he came upon the names of Daniel and Emily Shook as a serendipity while searching for Cortez Franklin Wilson's parents. He knew a bit about Cortez Franklin Wilson and Lorraine and had been to their graves in Coleman County, Texas, but he knew nothing of Lorraine's side of the family until June 13, 2000 when he read William Greer's fascinating story about Nathan Shook. The Shooks went from a mystery to his favorite research family in just three and one-half months. Alton wishes his great-aunt Ida Fay (Wilson) Guthrie had lived to be 94 instead of 92. She is the one who saved the pictures and a letter from Lorraine and Cortez all those years, and she would have been thrilled to have known about her grandparents' families. Alton is working on a revision to his wonderful report on the younger Jacob Shook's lineage that will contain some pictures.
