Hi Paul,

If I start with the newest census and work backward on David Haynes....

1930 Federal Census, Jackson Co., OR; ED 16-3, Ashland Precinct 5 North, part of

Ward 1 of Ashland City, page 4B, line 81; address 419 Laurel St.: Henry Haynes,

head, white male age 65, born TX; father born TX, mother born NC (On page 3A of

the same ED, there is a James R. Haynes, address 431 Laurel St., white male age

72, born Arkansas, both parents born GA.... I wondered if he was somehow

related.  Age would fit John R. Graves Haynes, and so would birthplace.  What

doesn't match is the name! Wondered if he 'said' Graves and the census taker

wrote it wrong, but see earlier records - it is always James, and is James on

the death certificate.)

1920 Federal Census, Jackson Co., OR; ED 177, sheet 6 A; North Ashland Precinct,

Ashland city; line 33 at 419 Laurel St. is Pleasant H. Haynes, head, white male

age 55, 'widowed' (divorced, really); born GA; father born NC, mother born GA;

just two houses prior to him is Ezra Jay and his wife Sarah J. Haynes,  Pleasant

Henry's older sister.  Her data says white female age 67, born NC, both parents

born GA. The James R. Haynes I mentioned above is in Malin Precinct, Klamath

Co., OR; ED 97, page 10B, line 74 and says he is 62, born Arkansas, father born

NC, mother born Alabama.... go figure!  Dayton Haynes Bussey is in Klamath Falls

City, Klamath Co., OR; ED 98, page 4 A, line 8 and her info reads ' white

female, age 58, widowed, born Arkansas, father born Missouri *, mother born

Georgia. (*See 1850 record later...)

1910 Federal Census, Jackson Co., OR; ED 116, sheet 17 A; West Ashland Precinct,

line 7 (name barely legible) Henry Haines, white male age 45, born TX, father

born NC, mother born GA.  His mother Elizabeth Haines is living with him, and

her information says white female age 80, widowed, mother of 12 children, 7

living; born GA, father born NC, mother born GA.  Six houses down is daughter

Sarah Haynes-Jay whose info reads white female age 58, married 11 years, no

children; born NC, father born NC, mother born GA.  That James Haynes from 1930

& 1920 census is living at 431 Laurel St, page 1 B of the same ED.  His data

says age 49, married within the year; born Arkansas, father born NC; mother born

GA.  At least HE is fairly consistent!

1900 Federal Census Klamath County OR, ED 29, sheet 3B, Poe Valley Precinct,

line 70 is Grace T. Haynes & husband Steven Griffith. Her data says white female

age 35, born April 1865 in Texas, father born NC, mother born GA; married 5

years, no children.  Line 86 is Matthison Haynes, white male age 36, born April

1864 TX; father born GA, mother born NC and with him is mother Elizabeth

Wilkins-Haynes. Her data reads white female age 70, 'widowed' (not really) born

Feb. 1830 North Carolina; father born NC , mother born GA.  In ED 24, sheet 8B,

Langell Valley Precinct, line 64 is Henry Haynes, head, white male age 35, born

December 1864 in Arkansas; both parents born GA;  with him is father David

Haynes, white male married 49 years, age 76 born June 1825 GA, both parents born

NC.  Same page line 89 is David's daughter Dayton Haynes Bussey whose data reads

white female born April 1861, age 39; married 23 years, 7 children, 7 living;

born Arkansas, father born NC, mother born GA.  Also in Langell Valley Precinct

is "Jeannie" (Sarah Jane) Haynes Jay, the oldest daughter. She's on page 9A,

line 28, white female born Sept 1852, age 47, married 2 years, no children; born

NC, father born NC, mother born Alabama.

1880 Federal Census Clackmas Co., OR; ED 18, page 21A, line 49 David Haynes,

white male age 56 born GA, father born NC, mother born KY; Elizabeth Haynes,

white female age 50, born GA, father born NC, mother born GA; (next page) lines

James age 18 born AR; Henry age 15 born AR; Grace T. age 14 born TX; George

(male) age 10 born TX; Eliza age 9 born TX; Mary age 7 born TX, Albert age 4

born TX.  Next household is Dayton Bussey, white female age 17 born AR; both

parents born GA and her eldest daughter Minnie B. age 1, born TX, father born

GA, mother born AR.  1880 was the first census that recorded the birthplace of

parents.

1870 Federal Census, Precinct #3 Grayson Co., TX, page 5 (not 15 as I put

before); line 7 is David Haynes, white male age 45, farmer, born GA; wife

Elizabeth J. 40 born GA; Sarah J. 17 born NC; Henrietta (female) 16 born NC;

Joseph 15 born GA; Graves 13 born AR; James M. & Ale D. both 11 born AR

(fraternal twins); P. Henry age 8 born AR; Grace T. age 4 born TX and Georgia F.

age 1 (female) born TX.  This is different than George (male) in 1880.  (Maybe

she died and then they had a son... but when you add all the children she gives

in 1900 & 1910, it doesn't tally right.)

1860 Federal Census Bear Creek Twp., Sevier Co., AR, page 133, line 17 David

Haynes, age 35, farmer born GA; wife Elizabeth J. age 30 born GA; Sarah 9 born

NC, "Henry E." (female) 8, born NC; Joseph R. 5 born GA; J. R. Graves Haynes 2

which she presumably belongs is at the top of the page...) Next family is Aron

Fullbright age 35 , Isabella (nee Haynes) 33, and 5 children ages 2 to 11 all

born NC.

1840 Federal Census, Haywood Co., NC; page 121 A; line 22 John Haynes: 1 male

I found a John Haynes in St. Francois Co., MO... didn't copy it yet.  Will do

that tonight.  I see there's a William Haynes in Haywood Co. NC in 1810, so will

look at that as well.

Thanks for the Haynes text file.  Family Treemaker does a great job of that.  I

have Ultimate Family Tree - a gift from my eldest son - but don't have

everything put in it yet.  It seems to have lots of ways to document

information, which is great!

I was playing this morning looking at "mapquest" in the vicinity of Canton...

found Haynes Farm Road, Sally Haynes Branch (of the Pigeon River), Haynes Road,

Haynes Circle Road, Haynes Cove Road... Obviously the Haynes family lived in the

area between Clyde and Canton for quite some time!  It was interesting to see

how the river flows NorthEast, then North, then West making 3/4 circle around a

mountain of some sort.  Mapquest shows the creeks and rivers - Navtech doesn't.

Mapquest doesn't always have the names... but at least they show the

watercourses.  That's a good way to get an idea of the lay of the land.  When

the upper end of a number of streams all originate from a centralized location,

then it's a good bet there's a mountain there... and meandering streams indicate

broad valleys.  Adds a little 'spice' to the research.

There used to be a database on Rootsweb (capthook333) belonging to Nancy

Dillard.  It was there Feb 22 this year, but is no longer there.  Gail said the

name Dillard rang a bell.... so I went looking last night.  Dayton

Haynes-Bussey's oldest daughter Minnie Belle married a Dillard.  Nancy's gedcom

had birthdates including date for the children she had listed... and her

marriage record said "Pigeon Creek, NC'.  Both Gail and I have emailed her, but

no response so far.  Dayton and Henry Haynes were siblings; Minnie

Bussey-Dillard and Gail's grandmother were first cousins, but 25 years apart in

age.

Hope this will help, tho it may add to the confusion!  Tee hee... I'm off to go

play and see what turns up in the research tonight: maybe nothing, and maybe

something fun!

Cheers!

Mary Fox
